A Contemporary Courtyard Architecture Creating a New Urban Park in the Heart of Milan.

VALTORTA32, designed by the studio of Cino Zucchi, one of the most recognised names in contemporary international architecture, took shape starting in 2017 and develops over a total volume of 36,200 m³. The project rises on an area of approximately 4,500 m² at the corner of Via Rovetta and Via Valtorta, within an urban context undergoing transformation, which the intervention contributes to revitalising and redefining.

The complex is conceived as a courtyard building, a typology capable of combining urban density with high‑quality living spaces. It consists of two residential buildings arranged in an “L” shape along the northern and eastern edges of the site: a ten‑storey tower and a four‑storey block, both positioned to enclose and protect a large planted inner garden, the green heart of the entire development.

The architectural design enhances the relationship with this semi‑public inner landscape, creating a quiet, sheltered urban interior that becomes a place for social interaction and environmental quality for residents. The volumetric articulation, the composition of the façades and the careful landscape design all contribute to a project that engages with the existing fabric while reinterpreting it through a refined and recognisable contemporary language.
