A sustainable timber kindergarten, conceived as a small village organized around a central light-filled patio, in dialogue with the CityLife urban park.

Within the large CityLife urban park, a 173,000 m² green area, stands a kindergarten mainly built in timber, whose construction began in 2017 and occupies a total volume of 6,000 m³. Immersed in approximately 3,000 m² of protected garden, the building offers an innovative interpretation of the school typology: the main volume is broken down into a series of small “houses” connected by a central glazed patio, which serves as the bright, communal heart of the complex.

This centripetal configuration ensures maximum functional flexibility: all spaces can be reconfigured, exchanged or expanded without altering the overall layout, making the school an adaptable organism capable of evolving alongside educational needs.

The project, rooted in the principles of sustainable construction, is the outcome of a competition launched in 2014 by CityLife in collaboration with Federabitazione Lombardia – Confcooperative and AAA architetticercasi™. Design choices, from natural materials to the extensive use of renewable energy, were all oriented toward achieving LEED Platinum certification, the highest international standard in environmental sustainability.
