An Educational Campus for Urban Life

The project for the new school complex in Porto Sant’Elpidio is conceived as a place capable of going beyond the traditional role of a school building, assuming the function of a civic center open to the entire community. The outdoor areas are designed as multifunctional spaces dedicated to sports, events, and everyday social activities, with the aim of creating a new point of reference for the town and supporting the urban regeneration of the surrounding area.

The architectural concept draws inspiration from symbols deeply rooted in local tradition: the frayed fishing nets worn by use and the honeycomb structure evoked in the municipal coat of arms. These metaphors guided a design approach grounded in precision, efficiency, and a strong sense of belonging, envisioning a place where different generations can meet, learn, and grow together. As the design process advanced—beginning in 2023—the intervention took shape as a fully articulated complex covering 7,846.90 m², conceived to meet the needs of both the school and the wider community.

The school complex is composed of two nearly twin buildings, designed to serve complementary functions. The first is dedicated exclusively to educational activities, providing a safe and focused learning environment. The second, by contrast, is designed to remain accessible beyond school hours, offering spaces intended for community use and expanding the availability of areas for cultural, recreational, and educational activities. This distribution allows for an optimized use of the facilities, turning the complex into a genuinely integrated part of the city’s daily life.

The public investment of €19,490,000.00 is dedicated to the creation of an infrastructure that aspires to become a symbol of integration, participation, and collective growth. The new school complex of Porto Sant’Elpidio is thus conceived not merely as a building, but as an architectural organism capable of generating social, cultural, and identity-driven value for the entire community.
